NAFLD fibrosis score

The NAFLD fibrosis score (NFS) estimates the likelihood of advanced fibrosis (F3 to F4) in MASLD. The MASLD fibrosis panel works out FIB-4, NFS, APRI and BARD together from one set of results.

How it is worked out

NFS = −1.675 + 0.037 × age + 0.094 × BMI + 1.13 × diabetes or IFG + 0.99 × AST/ALT − 0.013 × platelets − 0.66 × albumin (g/dL). Below −1.455 (0.12 from age 65) makes advanced fibrosis unlikely; above 0.676 makes it likely.
